Gramercy Park

Known eponymously for its exclusive, members-only Gramercy Park, Gramercy is a cozy, upscale community in a central Manhattan location. Tucked away from the bustle of major attractions yet still well-populated with dining, shops and nightlife, the neighborhood offers a tranquil, village vibe and an abundance of classic NYC charm. Gramercy Park was one of the country’s earliest attempts at city planning, first envisioned in 1831 by Samuel B. Ruggles.

Explore the Local Scene

The area retains a wide variety of historic architectural styles that blend graciously together due to zoning laws with a limit of about 20 stories. Numerous townhouses with generous yards can be found in Gramercy, as well as smaller apartments, and larger churches and institutions which predate the area’s long-held building size restrictions. At the heart of it all is Gramercy Park, a private park held in common by the owners of 39 surrounding structures. Fewer than 400 existing keys allow entry to the park, but neighborhood residents also enjoy jogging or reading in the surrounding area, as well as at Stuyvesant Square and other recreational facilities. If a classic, peaceful NYC neighborhood is what you are after, Gramercy has it in spades.
