In November of 2000, I had an idea that I wanted to own a 4 family rental property in New York. Manhattan was out of the question, Harlem was interesting, but the South Side of Williamsburg was my choice. The reason I chose the South Side was because the North Side was packed to the gills with hipsters and I assumed they would eventually make it to my hood. It was also the only place I could afford a 4 family rental property. I remember saying to my then girlfriend, Mrs. Z that we should give it 5-6 years and I was sure the neighborhood would get better.
Well within 6 months, small galleries began to open near my building.
Slowly new restaurants began to spring up such as Dumont and then Chicken Bone Cafe.
I knew I had made a good investment.
Which brings us to 2010- the South Side of Williamsburg is Ultra- hip and has some great restaurants to check out.
Last night my friend Peter, myself and 2 celebrities (which will remain anonymous) ventured to Fatty Cue, Zak Pelaccio’s new joint (yes, he used to work for me at Union Pacific)…….This dude can cook.
If you only eat two things and have one beer, here is the menu:
For appetizer- Manila Clams | ‘Cue bacon, bone broth, curry leaves, chili and a bowl of Nasi Ulam | rice salad, turmeric spice blend, ikan bakar, ginger, herbs- Drink a NY State made pork slap beer.
For your entrée- repeat the appetizer course.
Same for dessert- repeat appetizer and or entrée course.
The Clam dish is one of the most memorable dishes I have ever had in my life and I could have just stopped there. They have terrific BBQ too!
It is worth the trip!
Ps- the Smore pie is insane!
